Derek Hughes was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky in 1989. He started playing guitar at the age of 7. The family band, lead by his father Ronald Hughes, Jr., traveled throughout Indiana and Kentucky playing Classical Rock in clubs and small venues. At the age of 14 Derek got the recording bug. His early equipment was a 2 track recorder with analog tape. As technology advanced so did Derek’s talents. Many of the local bands began using him for recording as well as running live sound as a FOH (Front of House) engineer. Derek’s techniques and skills continued to grow and were eventually polished at the Full Sail University.

He now teaches for GeniusDV’s as a Certified Pro Tools Instructor.
