It is indeed my pleasure to be writing this letter of recommendation and evaluation for Mr. Mickey Hough, Genius DV After Effects Trainer. This letter comes on the heels of After Effects training in May of 2008. This training marked the second experience with Genius DV for me in the last two summers. I trained with John Lynn in Orlando, FL. on the Avid Editing system. Both of these training experiences have proven to be a great investment. This letter is a summary of the enhancement they have provided me and my students at WTAMU. Although my training with Mr. Lynn is what encouraged me to continue more training with Genius DV, it is the training that I received from Mickey that this letter addresses.
Evaluation: I am pleased to say that as a professor for more than 15 years, I am confident in the abilities of Mickey Hough to teach. When a person goes to training like this it is very easy to become overwhelmed. There is a tremendous amount to learn in a very short amount of time. Mickey took the time to get to know us, and our post-production workflow. He skipped lessons that would have been a waste of our time and focused on teaching us a skill set that we could take with us and use to our benefit. I am always a bit suspicious of teachers, professors, trainers who are afraid to step out of the textbook. This, to me, is a sign of lack of true, practical knowledge. Mickey was all over the place. He would rearrange lessons on the fly to suite our needs. Additionally, he was aware of our knowledge level and extremely patient when we lacked concentration. That is the great secret of teaching. He is a master at that. I have no reservations is giving Mickey Hough the highest recommendation as a trainer. I am also quite impressed with the company/training structure and fundamental desire to make sure students are first, and they learn what they need to learn.
Recommendation: Let me be bold. There are a lot of training companies out there. This one is solid. I would encourage anyone, when exploring training companies to ask them if students are allowed to call personal cell phones of instructors anytime they have a question. I assure you, no one offers technical support like that. Our university pays a fee to Avid for technical support. Just in the academic year of 2007-2008 we called Avid Assurance four times. Not one time were they able to provide proper assistance. I called John Lynn twice and he answered my questions in less than 5 minutes. When you are on deadline that is the kind of technical support you need. One of the last things Mickey did for us at the end of our training was ask us (there were two of us) if we had his cell phone number. A few days later I could not remember a basic editing shortcut he had told me about. I called him on his personal cell and told him an email was coming. I sent him an email and he responded in a very short amount of time. He not only answered by question, but gave me a few more tips. I recommend Genius DV without reservation! Please contact me directly if I can be of any further assistance.
Matthew Bartoli: I just wanted to say thanks for the amazing Final Cut training on Friday. I went home and recorded some footage with my dv camera and recreated what we learned to retain it better. The training made a huge improvement on the quality of my video as well as the speed of workflow.
I used your recommended animation render setting to export my footage to after effects and it was phenomenal. I appreciate the time you took to show me how to export my audio and video to Protools as well. Also, thanks for recommending the after effects book by Trish Meyer and showing us Multi-Camera mode. I look forward to doing more training with your company, and I'm definitely recommending you to my industry friends. Thanks again and keep in touch.
Marilyn Roder: Just wanted to thank you again for the training session Friday. It was probably one of the best trainings I have been to. Hope you had a great weekend.
Thanks so much for training last week. We thoroughly enjoyed having you here and hopefully will remember what you taught us. It was exciting to see Nic learn some things because it's very unusual for him not to know everything already. He had a good time and that's a sure sign of success. Thanks again and if we need more FCP training you will be the one we call.

I have recommended your website and company to many of my friends and work colleagues in Australia. The proffesional feedback and rapid response have been priceless to what I am trying to achieve.

Just some positive feedback for you guys to let you know that I love your daily news snippets that you provide for us on your main page. I check it every day and I find it both very interesting and useful in my day to day working routine. As an editor in this ever changing world of 'software updates' and technology, I find it important to know a little about a lot. Your updates provide me with all I need. Thanks guys.

Shane Moloney Hi there! FCP 5.0.4 quit unexpectedly every time i tried to render. After trying every suggest solution on the internet it boiled down to one. Your one. I dasiy chained my 2 LaCie External drives together and more importantly unplugged my Formac DV bridge from its firewire port at the back of my G4 while rendering. Problem Solved. Thank You. Good work.
Orlando, FL (Michael Moncrief) Just wanted to tell you guys thanks for the Final Cut class last week..It could have easily been two weeks long..Enjoyed it very much.. Thought Brett was very knowledgable and terrific as an instructor.. I am working on pulling some funding together to take the Motion and the DVD Studio class.. and maybe even the After Effects.. we will see....
Philadelphia, PA (Tony Peist) It's been a little over a month since I spent the week in Orlando at GeniusDV Avid Express Pro course. As you know I had already been using the Avid for about a month or so before I came down to Orlando. The knowledge I gained through your patience and expertise is invaluable. I mainly edit political spots and the knowledge I gained helped me sail through a very demanding schedule of approx. 50 spots in a month. Cutting spots is one thing but being able to quickly develop graphics and make changes quickly is something that without the short cuts you showed me would have taken me forever and deadlines would have been missed. Although we didn't win the primary, I was the winner for having spent the time at GeniusDV. I rave about the week I spent in Orlando every chance I get. Lunch with you, Brett and Kelsin were always enjoyable and enlightening. Thanks again for your patience and you knowledge.

Kevin KoopI just wanted to tell you how great your forum worked for me. I am an experienced FCP user, but I sometimes need that extra little bit of help. No more than 5 minutes after my post, I had an answer to my problem.
And it worked! I truly appreciate it. Thanks.
