Analyzing Media in Final Cut Pro X

Learn how to analyze media for fixing problems and-or adding important meta-data when ingesting content into Final Cut Pro X.

When importing media into Final Cut Pro X, you will notice that you also have
options for analyzing video during the import process.

If you check these options, Final Cut Pro will begin the analysis of each file that was selected to be imported.

You can bring forward the background tasks window by clicking on this percentage wheel at the top of the timeline area.

What’s fantastic is Final Cut Pro X will perform the analysis in the background.
So you will still be able to edit while Final Cut Pro processes the information.

Don’t worry.  If you choose not to select these options on import, you will still have the opportunity to analyze the media whenever you choose.

Just right-click on a clip or a series of clips and choose analyze and fix from the contextual menu.

When the analysis is done, clips that contain people or excessive shake will automatically be tagged with keywords.

That being said I’ll cover the specifics of analyzing media in a later lesson.

However, its important to note the analysis information will be located within the Final Cut Events folder.

Inside you’ll see your project with all the information piled into a folder called analysis files.

Meaning if you check everything during the import process, you will end up with three folders representing the data for color adjustments, finding people, and image stabilization.
