The other day I needed to mask someone's voice.  I remembered seeing a feature within SoundTrack Pro that allows you to turn someone's voice into a robot.  There's an actual term for this type of thing, it's called 'robotize'.

Well, after countless hours, I couldn't find the 'robotize' feature.  After some calls to various GeniusDV co-workers, I finally figured it out.  It's built into the 'vocal transformer' effect under the 'Pitch' category within SoundTrack Pro.

Here's a Quick Tutorial on how it works.
I'll start the tutorial with the assumption that you've got a clip within a Final Cut Pro sequence that you want to 'robotize'.  Remember, if you don't want to send something directly from Final Cut Pro you can always use Soundtrack Pro as its own independent application.

Right click on a clip within the Final Cut Pro sequence and choose 'send to soundtrack pro audio file project' from the contextual menu.

This will send the contents of the file directly into Soundtrack Pro.

Within Soundtrack Pro, look for the effects tab.  The effects tab is located on the left pane of the Soundtrack Pro interface.  If you're missing the left pane interface, you can activate it from the 'Window Menu' and choosing 'Toggle Left Pane'. Look for the 'Pitch Category' and double click on the 'Vocal Transformer' effect.

The vocal transformer dialog box will appear.  Within the vocal transformer box, click on the 'robotize' button.  Adjust the pitch knob until you've reach the desired effect.

Next, navigate to the 'Process' menu and select 'render to action'.

Then save the project.  Saving the project will automatically update your Final Cut Pro sequence with the changes that you've made to the clip.  It's that easy!
