Like in any application, from time to time LiveType will act irregular. A good maintenance practice in LiveType is to Clear your settings when experiencing irregularities. This will often fix whatever issue you are experiencing. To do this, go to the LiveType menu, and select Settings/Clear Settings. This will reset your LiveType preferences back to the defaults, and in the process likely correct any irregularities.

The default preset in the Project Properties is CCIR 601 NTSC 40:27. This is a 720 x 486 preset, and most likely not what you want. If you are working in a DV/NTSC 48k project in Final Cut, you will want the NTSC DV 3:2 setting. For HD Final Cut projects the HDTV presets work very well.

After choosing the preset that works for you, it is a good idea to tell LiveType to Remember the preset you have chosen. To do this you go to the LiveType menu and select Settings/Remember Settings. This will set the preset you have chosen as the default, and will subsequently use that preset in all future LiveType projects.

One more setting that you may want to consider changing before Remembering the settings is giving the background a tint to make it easier to view.
