DVD Studio Pro Training
DVD Studio Pro Training Course This course immediately follows our Final Cut Pro (Studio) 4 day class. In this course you will gain all of the skills necessary to author a fully functional DVD. You will learn the entire authoring process from the pre-planning steps that happen before you even begin editing to burning your finished DVD. You will learn the entire DVD creation/authoring process.
You will explore the various interface windows, configurations, and certain project and preference settings. You will start off by creating a simple DVD, by using DVD Studio Pro to make it a looping DVD. You will learn how to create a basic menu and then connect assets to the menu. Learn how to simulate a disc within the DVD Studio Pro application. Then you'll discover how to build a simple project and burn a disc.
After learning the how to create a basic DVD you will finish the day creating a more complex DVD. You will learn how to create interactive menus, including a main menu and sub menus. You will build a custom slideshow that has a variety of transitions and audio. Adding Subtitles will also be covered in this class. You will also learn how to add DVD ROM content to the disc. Last of all you will learn how to encode and output your DVD.

Learn how to prepare your first DVD Studio Pro project.
This requires learning the DVD creation process and the DVD video specification. You will explore the basic interface windows and how each of them operates. First you will start off by creating a simple DVD using the 'basic layout'. Next you will learn how to create a basic menu and connecting assets to the menu. You will learn how to simulate a disc within the DVD Studio Pro application. Then you'll discover how to build a simple project and burn a disc.

In this section, you will open an existing project and explore the DVD Studio pro window configurations. You will also learn how to adjust certain project settings.
Setting up a simple DVD
Learn how to storyboard your DVD and how to use the graphical tab to make your job easier. Identify source video settings and the DVD Studio pro preferences. Learn how to set up disc properties. Next, you will learn how to import video and audio files into DVD Studio Pro. Discover how to set chapter markers and how to simulate a project.
Creating menus within DVD Studio Pro
Discover the menu creation process and how to import assets. Learn how to add a background graphic. Next, create buttons on a still menu and learn how to make connections from buttons to full motion video. Discover how the title safe feature works and why it is important. Add title and text to individual menu.
Learn how to add sound to a menu.
Create an intro menu that appears before the main DVD menu. Explore how to set up navigation on your DVD. Learn how to change a still menu into a motion menu.
Creating a Chapter Index
Menu Learn how to customize a default chapter index menu, and how to set up chapter index navigation buttons. Then discover how to automate the chapter index menu creation process.
Creating a slideshow
You will learn about the different file formats compatible with slideshows. Explore how to modify slideshows and add slideshow transitions. Next, learn how to covert a slideshow into a useable track.
Find out how subtitles work within DVD Studio Pro. Learn how to modify the font style and color of subtitles. You will discover how to import subtitles from a text file, and how to preview your subtitles before burning a DVD.
Learn how to add DVD rom content to a DVD video disc.
Introduction to Encoding
Learn all about compression and Bit Budgeting. You will learn how to use Apple compressor to encode a file. Discover how to create presets and droplets to save time. Explore the importance of using A.Pack compression for audio files.
Finishing your DVD
First you will test your project. Next, you will learn about building and formatting an actual DVD disc. You will discover some of the differences between a DVD rom player and a consumer set top player. Learn the various ways to burn a disc. Learn about the differences between different types of DVD media. Next, you will discover some important concepts regarding distribution of your completed DVD. The skills taught in this class are what take a basic DVD to the caliber that you expect to see coming out of Hollywood. Using Stories, Scripting, and DVD@access you will be able to increase the level of interactivity of your DVD's. In Addition in this class students will learn encoding techniques to maximize the amount of material they fit on a DVD.

You will explore how to implement drop zones, and why they are different then traditional buttons. You will learn how to use specialized shapes, and how to create drop zone shapes. Discover how to create style, and how to use Apple LiveType program to create fantastic text effects. Then you will learn how to create menu template.
Creating a Button over Video
Learn to insert a Button that appears over video during playback, and allows the viewer to navigate away from the video to another video, menu, slideshow, etc.
Learn how to apply transitions, including using alpha transitions. Next you will explore how to use an asset movie. Discover how to implement a background matte movie.
Advanced MPEG Encoding
Learn about choosing quality and compression settings within DVD Studio Pro. Explore GOP structures and what they mean. Learn how to preview your compressions settings and how to use markers with Apple Compressor. Plus, learn the techniques of properly cropping video. Finally, learn how to add the encoded file to your project.
