This announcement follows on the heels of several collaborative successes, including the 35th Annual People's Choice Awards on January 7th, during which hundreds of thousands of streams were successfully delivered to online audiences tapping into extensive coverage of red carpet events, backstage interviews and post-show festivities. All live streams were produced in real time by Incited Media, alongside the traditional broadcast coverage on CBS, and delivered over the Highwinds content delivery network (CDN) to broadband viewers.
Tomorrow looks to be an exciting day for Americans and the Presidental family, but it will be also be a huge day for video content delivery networks.  Inauguration Day 2009 will be unprecedented as it relates to Webcasts.  Many stations and broadcast will have live streaming of the ceremony.  The technical side of me is excited about monitoring many of the webcasts available.

Cross Media recently produced and managed ten live streams from the Wimbledon tennis championships over the Netherlands' NET5 station Web site using the Microsoft Silverlight platform.  In addition, viewers can watch the Wimbledon matches on-demand through the NET5 portal.
