do. For this tutorial weʼll take a DV.mov source �le that is 720 x 480 and 29.97 frames
per second captured from an analog source.  The source ï¬?le has the DV/DVCPro Codec for video with PCM for audio.



To get started with encoding this �le for downloadable streaming for high broadband
users in Episode Encoder Pro, we �rst need to select our source �le.



Next, drag it to the Batch area where Drag Source is displayed



Now your source ï¬?le can been seen in the batch.  You can also drag the video ï¬?le
directly to the Batch from a folder or the desktop.   Let me talk a little about our source
before we move forward.  If you select the source and click the Enter button on your
keyboard a preview of the video appears. 

Final Cut Pro has it's own de-interlace filter.  The following tutorial will walk you through the steps of de-interlacing video in Final Cut Pro.  Alternatively, you can also download free de-interlacing software that runs as a third party program.

Usually you don't notice interlacing during video playback; until the motion is paused, or you want to use a particular frame to freeze.  Interlacing causes the still frame to "flicker" or a jittering to the image, also caused by poor video quality, or lack of a steady hand while filming.  Here's where the De-Interlacing Filter in Final Cut Pro comes in handy.  The De-Interlacing Filter works by simply removing either the upper (odd) or lower (even) field of information from any interlaced video.  It removes half the lines and interpolates the missing lines by using the remaining lines to create a whole image, with a little softening of the image as a result.

Launched today, the service offers access to a range of leading pay TV entertainment as part of an online-only subscription. The new version of Sky Player TV, which in addition continues to be offered on a bonus basis to Sky's DTH (direct-to-home) customers, now delivers live linear channels and video-on-demand content to Windows-based PCs and, for the first time, includes live channel support for Macs.

MySpace, the world's premier social network, and RipCode, an innovator of Internet and mobile video infrastructure solutions, announced that MySpace Mobile users across the globe will now be able to enjoy MySpace video content from their video enabled mobile devices.  The first social portal to launch video streaming for mobile, MySpace's beta mobile video initiative is committed to ensuring the best user experience by providing the highest quality video for mobile viewing. Users will now be able to view videos they've uploaded or have marked as a favorite.

Streambox announced that Community of Faith in Houston uses a Streambox Software Encoder coupled with a Streambox SBT3-5100 Decoder to stream video from Pastor Mark Shook's missionary work abroad. This past summer when Shook spent four weeks in Africa as part of a missionary trip, the congregation in Houston was able to share in the experience via streaming video.

With an average weekly attendance of 5,000, and a second campus in Cancun, Mexico, Community of Faith is one of Houston's largest houses of worship. Pastor Shook's missionary trip was part of the church's ongoing outreach to the Batwa people in the African nation of Burundi. With the Streambox software encoder running on his laptop, the pastor captured live video and sent files over IP back to Houston, utilizing Streambox's File Transfer Tool. The video clips were then inserted into his weekly messages during services on four consecutive Sundays.

For all those individuals in media organizations, public affairs and media departments that need to start migrating video to the web, there is an amazing tool to help you out. Internap's Media Console is amazing and makes life simple for streaming.  Their tool takes the hard work out of authoring your streaming videos for the web. The only item that you have to focus on is encoding your videos. The Media Console comes as part of the package for using the Internap Content Delivery Network (CDN) to host your streaming content.

Head's up for those who upgraded from Avid Xpress Pro to Media Composer.  If you are lucky enough to own one of those fancy Avid Xpress Pro keyboards with the colorful keys, you may notice that some of the keys don't translate perfectly to the Media Composer default keyboard layout.

Fortunately, a company called 'logickeyboard', provides an upgrade path by providing a whole new set of  keycaps that you can simply pop out and replace. Replacing the keycaps is much cheaper than purchasing a new keyboard.

 

 

On2 Technologies, a leader in video compression solutions, today announced that it has signed a new agreement with Skype, the world's leading online communications company, to extend Skype's relationship licensing On2's video codec technology.

Millions of people every day use Skype software to communicate with others through free voice and video calls. On2's technology provides encoding, scaling, pre-processing and post-processing of video on Skype. On2 supported the launch of video on Skype in 2005 with the integration of the On2 VP7 codec with Skype 2.0 for Windows. Since that time, Skype launched High Quality Video in October 2007, calling on the On2 codec, allowing users with as little as 0.5mbps available bandwidth to enjoy full screen video calls at VGA resolution. The On2 codec is also used in the recently announced Asus AiGuru SV1 Skype Certified Videophone. The new agreement is intended to pave the way for the On2 codec to migrate along with the Skype service to a diverse array of new devices such as the AiGuru SV1 videophone.

I had a chance recently to test out Digital Rapids' StreamLive encoder with multi-codec support and support for On2 VP6 Live streaming.  The heavy duty StreamZLive encoder has lots of features an adjustments for audio and video and provides high quality video output for your live streams.  The live streaming solution I tested was a a qualified turnkey system that makes life simple for those moving from on-demand streaming to live streaming.  The benefit of the StreamZLive turnkey solution is an individual doesn't have to set-up their own encoder and install video cards or a spec out a PC workstation to use for live streaming.  The turnkey StreamZLive solution, since it's qualified, is fully supported by Digital Rapids.  That's one of the advantages of purchasing a qualified live encoder.  The StreamZLive encoders also come with presets for streaming to Highwinds, Limelight and Akamai CDNs.  I also was able get live streaming to work with Internap's CDN using the their MediaConsole to streaming Live Flash video.  Be sure to check out some of Digital Rapids' live encoding tools when you get time.

Brightcove Inc. and AOL announced AOL will adopt Brightcove for online video content management, publishing and video playback throughout the AOL Network. This partnership will combine AOL's video content offerings with Brightcove's market-leading online video platform. Beginning in early 2009, AOL Programming and AOL Video, http://video.aol.com, programming partners will use Brightcove to deliver video to the millions of people who visit AOL sites each day. Brightcove's integration with AOL's global advertising platform, Platform-A, will also expand opportunities for content partners to monetize video with online advertising.

Brightcove, the leading online video platform, today announced that it has entered into a company-wide agreement with UK terrestrial broadcaster, Five, enabling them to incorporate advertising-supported video content across their online properties. The first websites to launch online video using Brightcove include Five News with Natasha Kaplinsky, Football Italiano, and Australian soap opera, Neighbours.

Under the terms of the agreement, any Five website producer can easily take advantage of the Brightcove online video platform to program online video content, create Flash-based video players for their websites, target advertising into the content, and access rich analytics on viewing behavior. Five plans to offer promotional clips and highlights, website exclusives, and user-generated videos for special news features.
