RipCode, Inc., an innovator of Internet and mobile video infrastructure solutions, announced that it has secured more than $12.5 million in additional financing to fuel worldwide market traction for the company's breakthrough video delivery technology. Granite Ventures led the round alongside existing investors Hunt Ventures, El Dorado Ventures, Vesbridge Partners, and ATA Ventures. Additionally, Eric Zimits, managing director of Granite Ventures, joins RipCode's board of directors.

Harmonic Inc. announced that ASTRA Platform Services GmbH (APS), a subsidiary of the Luxembourg-based satellite service operator SES ASTRA, has selected Harmonic's advanced video processing solutions to support APS' digital free-to-air television service for Kabeldienstleistungs GmbH (KDL), a service provider to independent and private cable operators in Germany. Independent cable operators today serve several million German subscribers, and with APS infrastructure upgrade, KDL now can provide up to 22 additional digital free-to-air channels being delivered from APS and SES ASTRA to the cable subscribers via the cable headends. Harmonic's IP-based MPEG-2 standard definition (SD) DiviCom Electra 5000 encoders, selected by APS for this project, achieve the best possible video quality at ultra low bit-rates.

Harmonic Inc. announced that its Rhozet universal transcoding technology has been selected by Ascent Media Group (AMG) for its Viia media services platform. AMG's Viia services platform with Rhozet transcoding technology enables media companies to digitize content once, then store, manage, re-purpose and distribute it globally in multiple formats and languages to numerous providers simultaneously.

Millions of people every day use Skype software to communicate with others through free voice and video calls. On2's technology provides encoding, scaling, pre-processing and post-processing of video on Skype. On2 supported the launch of video on Skype in 2005 with the integration of the On2 VP7 codec with Skype 2.0 for Windows. Since that time, Skype launched High Quality Video in October 2007, calling on the On2 codec, allowing users with as little as 0.5mbps available bandwidth to enjoy full screen video calls at VGA resolution. The On2 codec is also used in the recently announced Asus AiGuru SV1 Skype Certified Videophone. The new agreement is intended to pave the way for the On2 codec to migrate along with the Skype service to a diverse array of new devices such as the AiGuru SV1 videophone.
