On2Technologies.jpg On2 Technologies announced today that 56.com, China's leading video sharing web site, is to standardize on On2 Flix Engine as its server-side transcoding and publishing platform for all web video uploads. In a move to dramatically reduce bandwidth costs and increase video quality, 56.com will switch to On2 VP6-based Flash video to encode and publish an average of 50,000 new video streams each day. 56.com serves video to over 35 million people each month.

56.com reviewed many encoding solutions as well as other formats for Flash video. On2 Flix Engine proved the most robust and reliable through rigorous testing and provided the broad input format support needed. The decision to choose On2 VP6 as the codec for Adobe Flash video was based on many factors including encode speed, compression metrics, features, playback performance, market acceptance and licensing terms.
On2Technologies.jpg On2 Technologies, the leader in video compression solutions, announced the availability of the Hantro 7280 encoder Register Transfer Level (RTL) design. Supporting MPEG-4, H.263 and H.264 video, along with 16MP JPEG, the encoder is targeted for chipsets intended for devices with very low-power requirements such as: portable video cameras, mobile phones, remote security cameras, laptops and webcams. With a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 at 30 fps, the Hantro 7280 introduces a new level of performance and functionality.
On2Technologies.jpg On2 Technologies, Inc., a leader in video compression solutions, announced today that it has joined the MIPS Alliance Program to bring its highly efficient video compression solutions to designers using cores from MIPS Technologies. On2 will optimize its TrueMotion VP6 decoder, used in Adobe Flash video, for the MIPS32 24K and MIPS32 24KE cores, which are widely used in DVD and set-top box solutions, and will offer a 'one-stop-shop' for video codecs to chipset and device manufacturers.

On2's codec portfolio includes both proprietary and standards-based designs. The proprietary TrueMotion codecs proliferate web video through Adobe Flash, SUN Microsystems and Skype, among others. The standards-based implementations, renowned for their highly efficient designs, are widely adopted by wireless chipset and device manufacturers. Supporting On2 VP6 & VP7, MPEG2, MPEG4, VC-1, Sorenson Spark and H.264, the codecs are available for licensing as software and hardware (RTL) IP supporting resolutions up to 1080p.

On2Technologies.jpg Broadcast International and On2 Technologies, leaders in video compression technology and solutions, today announced an agreement to make real-time, high quality video, including high-definition (HD) video, accessible anywhere to capable network-connected devices. Under the agreement, Broadcast International will integrate On2's market-leading TrueMotion codecs, which have more than 1 billion deployments worldwide, with its breakthrough CodecSys multi-codec video compression software. This integration will allow content available in standard formats to be encoded in real-time for delivery to a broad range of devices in resolutions significantly higher than previously possible.

"By incorporating the On2 Technologies codec into Broadcast International's CodecSys encoder framework, this opens up the world of Adobe Flash video and points to the future possibility of massively powerful and yet cheap encoders, running on the IBM Cell chip, which can ingest video once, and real time encode at impossibly low bandwidth, video for set tops, PCs and handsets, all in a single pass," said Peter White, Principal Analyst for digital media at Rethink Research Associates.
