Microsoft Corp. and BSkyB announce that Microsoft Silverlight and PlayReady technologies are enabling Sky Player TV, Sky's online TV service. Launched today, the service offers access to a range of leading pay TV entertainment as part of an online-only subscription. The new version of Sky Player TV, which in addition continues to be offered on a bonus basis to Sky's DTH (direct-to-home) customers, now delivers live linear channels and video-on-demand content to Windows-based PCs and, for the first time, includes live channel support for Macs.
inletlogo.gif Inlet Technologies, the leader in advanced encoding solutions for new media, announced today that Netherlands-based Cross Media Ventures is employing its SpinnakerTM encoding solution to stream a variety of live events, including the 2008 Wimbledon tennis championships and A1GP Motor Races held in the Netherlands, as well as a classical music concert in Amsterdam.

Cross Media recently produced and managed ten live streams from the Wimbledon tennis championships over the Netherlands' NET5 station Web site using the Microsoft Silverlight platform.  In addition, viewers can watch the Wimbledon matches on-demand through the NET5 portal.

Streaming Media East 2008 is set to kick-off May 20-21, 2008 in New York City.  This is the leading conference to get information surrounding streaming media, compression and other types of web experiences.  While the conference host many sessions, I wanted to make a special note that there are two pre-conference workshops that will help shed light on creating Silverlight experiences.  Here are the names for the two sessions presented by the Microsoft team:
