Importing Photoshop graphic into Avid
If you are designing a graphic within Photoshop to be keyed over video with the Avid software, make sure you build your graphic on a transparent background.
If you are using Photoshop CS, it is important that you build your graphic as 720 x 480 using
the pixel aspect ratio correction. This is because Photoshop works with Square pixels, and DV video works with non-square pixels.
When importing a graphic built with a transparent background in Photoshop, it is important that you tell the Avid to invert the alpha channel. Otherwise the graphic will come in with the alpha channel reversed.
Find the Avid project window, and click on the Settings tab. Then double click on the import settings.

This will bring up the import settings box. Click on the option to invert the alpha channel.
It is also important that you save your final graphic as a .png file. Otherwise the Avid will improperly interpret the effect layers within Photoshop. You will notice that the soft drop shadow doesn’t look quite right in the example below.

If you forget to save your graphic as a .png, you'll need resave your graphic and reimport into the Avid. One your finished, your graphic should look like this, assuming you've done everything correctly.
