|

The layers palette in Adobe Photoshop has many useful tools. One of the greatest mis-understood portions in the lock controls. You have a three options and I will explain how each one works.

1. Lock Transparent Pixels: This only lets you paint or apply filters to the pixels already on the layer. The transparent areas are locked and cannot be changed. This is very useful if you need to preserve your tranparencies.

2. Lock Image Pixels: You cannot alter the look of the pixels on the layer but you are still able to move them.

3. Lock Position: You can perform any tasks to your pixels you just cannot move there position. This is very useful if you have many layers you are trying to keep lined up.

4. Lock All: The layer is completely locked. You cannot perform any functions to that layer. This is great once you get everything exactly the way you want it.

Hopefully this will help you have a greater understanding of how to make your Adobe Photoshop productions go a little smoother and save some time.
