4Caster M2 is Mobile Industry's First MPEG-4 Encoder to Support Multiple Rates, Resolutions and Standards

|

Demonstrating its unremitting commitment to empower a converged IP world, Envivio Inc. introduces its new version of the 4Caster M2, the world's first and only multi-rate, multi-resolution and multi-standard encoder that outputs eight simultaneous profiles with live bit rate switching from a single video input. This comprehensive feature set makes the M2 the most advanced mobile encoder available on the market. The system will be on display in the Envivio stand #1.550 at IBC2006 in Amsterdam at IBC. Envivio will also showcase a technology demonstration of next generation IP-based multiplexing capabilities in the form of statistical rate control that will optimize bandwidth usage for operators using mobile broadcast technology. The 4Caster M2 mobile encoding system is shipping now.

As millions of users watch video on their mobile devices, operators face the growing challenge of having to deploy as many video headends as there are networks and device types. In anticipation of a converged IP world made up of hybrid networks and hybrid devices, Envivio has introduced the first encoder able to support any device on any network.

The 4Caster M2 supports network and device convergence thanks to a highly advanced list of features including:

  • Video to any network, including 2.5G, 3G, and 3.5G networks, mobile broadcast networks such as DVB-H, as well as next generation networks such as Wifi and Wimax;
  • The most support of network standards, including 3GPP, 3GPP2, DVB-H, DMB, and ISDB-T;
  • Extensive device support, including all of the most popular video handsets currently deployed in mobile networks, as tested and verified by Envivio customers and partners;
  • Management and output of up to eight subscriber profiles simultaneously, thereby significantly reducing total cost of ownership;
  • Simultaneous streaming and broadcasting of mobile video at multiple bit rates to ensure the highest quality video for any network being used and any device being targeted, and;
  • Live bit rate switching, a unique feature that enables the video encoder to modify the bit rate in real time as a result of changes in the quality of the network.

    "As the uncontested leader in mobile video headend deployments, Envivio is delivering encoders that anticipate the needs of the market," said Julien Signès, President and CEO of Envivio Inc. "The 4Caster M2 fully addresses video convergence by supporting any mobile device on any network."

    Envivio has the largest number of mobile video headend deployments with more than 1,500 encoders sold to over 100 Tier 1 and Tier 2 operators. The recent award to Envivio of multiple European, American and Asian Tier 1 mobile TV projects valued at over $4 million further reinforces its lead in the market.

    The 4Caster M2 mobile encoder will be on display at IBC2006.
