Using lights within Avid's Marquee title tool can really help bring your titles to life.

To do this, navigate to the Toolset menu and choose Basic Animation.

Click on the text tool and type a text object in the Canvas window.

Next, click on the Edit Tool.

Then click on the enable lighting and enable gradient controls for your text object.

Switch the mapping from local to container.

To make our title look cool, let's add an edge.

Again, turn on the lighting and gradient options.

Go ahead and choose an edge type, and give the edge a color.

Okay, now click on the light tool.

You'll notice you've already got one light.

To add another light, right click on the Canvas Window and choose Add Light.

Click on the light to make it active.

Then right click on it and choose Light Type - Spot light from the contextual menu.

Go ahead and position the spot light cross hairs to the right or left of the text object.

Now click on this animation mode icon.

Move the position indicator in the timeline forward approximately 2 seconds.

The move the spot light cross hairs across to the other side of your text object.

Okay, that's it!  Back up and watch the animation.
