I came across a handy little tool today called the FCS Maintenance Pack available from Digital Rebellion, which is a utility pack designed to keep your Final Cut Studio machine running at optimal performance, and helps resolve problems as they come up. FCS Maintenance Pack is designed to quickly diagnose and fix common issues, and with the Task Scheduler utility, you can schedule maintenance tasks in the background.

FCS Maintenance Pack can clean up your autosaves, locate corrupt clips within a sequence, analyze crash logs, trash caches, retrieve data from damaged files, and more. Let's take a closer look at what FCS Maintenance Pack has to offer...

Autosave Cleaner: can remove autosaves based on certain criteria such as age and file size; and it can also be set to automatically remove autosaves from the trash so that you don't have to keep emptying it when working on a long project.
Corrupt Clip Finder: If you ever have a corrupt clip in your Timeline, Final Cut crashes, leaving you with no idea which clip is causing the issue. Corrupt Clip Finder finds the corrupt clip for you in seconds.
Crash Analyzer: analyzes your Final Cut Pro logs, attempts to diagnose the issue and suggests ways to solve the problem.
FCS Housekeeper: I liked the idea of this one alot; it trashes various caches and temporary files to keep Final Cut Studio in optimal working condition. It can also be used along with Task Scheduler to run these tasks automatically.
Plug-In Manager: I liked this one alot as well, since I'm a big fan of using Plug-ins! It allows you to quickly and easily organize all of your Final Cut Pro plug-ins

Project Repair: attempts to repair non-launching projects so that they are recognized by Final Cut Pro again
Preference Manager: manages your Final Cut preference files; you can trash, backup, lock and restore preferences
Task Scheduler: many of these tasks can be automated using this utility; just set it, and forget it, and FCS Maintenance Pack will take care of the rest

You can download a trial version of FCS Maintenance Pack here and when you decide you simply can't live without it, a single license is available for $99; well worth the money spent in my opinion. Anything to save me headaches and time down the road is worth it!
