Working with Motion Graphic Templates in Final Cut Pro
Final Cut Studio ships with a software product called Motion. Within Motion, you can create motion graphic templates. These templates show up automatically in the Generator menu under the Master Templates menu category. Each template contains a different design that you can alter in terms of changing the text, text size, text position, and video content.
Final Cut Pro supplies an excellent set of prebuilt Master Templates
that you can use. After you've mastered the prebuilt templates, you
can build new ones using Motion. You can adjust the parameters for
each individual template by clicking on the Controls Tab within the
Viewer window. Again, it is best to edit your template to the Timeline
first and then double-click on the template within the Timeline to
reopen it into the Viewer window.

Some of the Master Templates contain something called a clip well. A clip well looks like a gray box with a question mark inside it. By dropping a clip inside a clip well, you change the contents of the Master Template. You can drag a graphic or a clip directly from the Browser window into any clip well.
You can also edit a Master Template directly in Motion by right-clicking on the clip within the Final Cut Pro sequence and choosing Open in Editor from the contextual menu. This automatically opens the template back into Motion. You can then make changes to the design and resave it as another Master Template.
To save a Motion Project as a template, go to File > Save as Template. Then give the template a new name and specify a category for one of the themes.
