Creating Live Font Master Templates in Motion

| | TrackBacks (0)
Using Live Fonts in Motion or LiveType is a popular way to create professional titles with Final Cut Studio. If you have a particular Live Font you like to use often, you can save it as a Template in Motion, and it will appear in Final Cut Pro as a Master Template.

The Script Live Font is one of my favorites, so to make it easy to access this font, I created a Master Template of it. First I opened a project in Motion and created a Title. Since the Script Live Font wants to write on all letters at once, I drug the Sequence slider out, so the letters would write on one at a time. I also increased the speed to simulate handwriting. Last of all I made my Motion project 420 frames long, so that it would be plenty long for most titling situations.

Once I have the Text the way I like it I save it as a Motion Template. Next I give it a name, and creating a new Theme to put it into.

Now the Motion Template is available in Final Cut Pro as a Master Template, and can be accessed from the Video Generators menu, Effects Menu, or Effects Tab.

Once selected it will appear in the Viewer, and the Template will be editable. You will be able to change the Text, the Text Size, and Text Tracking in the Controls Tab of the Viewer, before bringing it into your sequence.
