snowlep.gifIt's finally here, the new Mac operating system, Snow Leopard, comes out tomorrow, Friday, August 28th.  What can we expect from the new OSX?  Basically,  a more refined, faster, and easier to use OS.  Apple's website outlines some of the new following features:

  • 64-bit technology:  now all system applications will have 64-bit code; it will feel faster and more responsive
  • Grand Central Dispatch:  makes for more efficient multicore processors
  • Open CL:  optimizes graphics processors
  • QuickTime X:  delivers enhanced playback, more efficient, and higher quality; features large thumbnail images to make navigating chaptered movies even easier; can now publish your media to Youtube or MobileMe without having to worry about codecs
  • Built-in support for Microsoft Exchange:  whether you're at home or at work, all of your messages, meetings, and contacts are all in one place
  • Latest version of Safari 4
  • Updated Universal Access:  for users with disabilities; from using the Multi-Touch Trackpad with VoiceOver, to the availablility of more than 40 Braille display models
For just a $29 upgrade from Leopard, Snow Leopard will enhance your entire Mac experience.  Faster, more reliable and easier to use.  I for one, am looking forward to it; be sure to check back next week for a critique from our instructors on the new Snow Leopard OSX!
