Creating a Story Edit with the File Browser of Final Cut Pro

| | TrackBacks (0)
Getting clips and or images in the correct order before bringing them into your sequence can be easily achieved using the File Browser in Final Cut Pro. There are a couple of important steps to follow, but if the process is followed correctly the result is efficiency.
Anyone who has used Final Cut for more than 20 minutes has probably drug multiple still images into a sequence (I like to use iPhoto to import still images into my sequence)and then had to rearrange them with an assortment of techniques. Once the media is in a sequence on of the best ways to rearrange is the swap edit, but there is a better way, and it happens before we bring our media into the sequence. By right clicking in the name column in the Final Cut File Browser you can change the view to large icons. Once you are looking at your media as icons you can rearrange them into the order you want them to appear in the sequence. It is very important to understand that the order the clips will appear in your sequence is determined by both the vertical order first, and then the horizontal order. Editors can get into trouble by having one piece of media that is right of another, but slightly higher. The higher media will appear in the sequence before everything to the left that is lower in the File Browser.  The best way to prevent this issue is to purposely have each piece of media to the right of another slightly lower, like shown to the left.
