Live Flash HD Streaming Taken to Extreme
The future of Flash
streaming was showcased on January 25 - 27, 2008, at
Simpel Session 08, Europe's most popular wintertime BMX and
skateboarding competition, which, for the first time in the event's
seven-year history, was Webcast live in high-definition by
Freecaster.tv (www.freecaster.tv).
Held at Saku Suurhall in Tallinn, Estonia, Simpel Session 08 attracted thousands of spectators from around the world, and some 118,000 more unable to attend who were treated to a real-time and uninterrupted front seat-look at all the action, which took place over three days and came to a rousing conclusion on Sunday, Jan. 27, with a marathon 8-hour live Webcast
"It was our most popular event to date, and we couldn't have done it without our technology partners," said Raymond Dulieu, CEO, Freecaster. "In particular, we would like to acknowledge the rock-solid network support of our CDN, Interoute; the superior stability and scalability of Wowza Media Systems, makers of award-winning Wowza Media Server Pro server software; and the 2-Pass VBR live encoding of KulaByte's XStream HD encoder, which delivered real-time HD-quality content."

"On a more personal note," he added, "We would also like to
thank Stefan Richter, the master Flash developer and founder of
FlashComGuru (www.flashcomguru.com)
who built our player and advised us on many of the logistics of
streaming such a large event. We are now gearing up to migrate all our
H.264 content to the new Flash 9 player in order to reach the widest
possible audience with our state of the art action sports content."
